For over twenty years this has been the favourite high performance turntable for the music loving public, having a beguiling blend of classically clean looks, high performance and amazing value for money.
This latest version carries some new innovative changes in design which makes it without doubt the highest performance and musical P3 to date. Just some of the features include an ultra low mass microfibre plinth laminated with highly rigid phenolic resin laminate. The P3 motor assembly uses the very highest quality synchronous motor found in turntables five times the price of the P3! The motor is itself controlled by Rega's innovative new electronic circuitry which results in this already low vibration motor running almost totally vibration free. The platter is hand crafted from floated plate glass 13mm in thickness. This makes for a superb platter material as it has few resonance problems, is extremely flat and has good mass.
Rega is using a new RIGID plinth manufactured from a special new ULTRA LIGHT WEIGHT COMPOSITE MATERIAL which has reduced overall mass by more than 20% which is directly reflected in the sound performance. Over the past few years Rega has pioneered through cost effective and sophisticated electronic circuitry the advanced fine tuning of our already superbly quiet Motor. A similar technology which is incorporated in the Planar 25 is utilized in a passive form in the new Planar 3 turntable. The new P3 motor assembly uses no active electronic trimming devices and combined remarkable cost effective engineering producing extremely low vibration. This has enabled us to re-design one of the most classic features of the original Planar design. As our new motor assembly has virtually no vibration. It can be directly coupled to the turntable plinth using the latest in adhesive pad technology commonly found in the automotive and aerospace industry. (Yes! No more wobbly rubber motor mountings.) Being able to directly reduce both wow and particularly flutter that the turntable produces. This will demonstrate itself in sound quality as having more control, accuracy and detail.
The P3 carries arguably the most famous tonearm ever produced, the legendary RB300. This tonearm will never be found wanting for performance and will make cartridges work very hard to provide you with astonishing quantities of musical detail.
